HOW TO REGISTER A DOMAIN NAME?
Registering a Domain Name isn't a difficult process, but it can be very difficult selecting one that works for your business. Sometimes simply registering your business name as your .COM name does not work so well, for example:
Local South Florida attorney's; Samson, Greenblat and Geiger L.L.C. want to create a website for their law firm, simply registering "samsongreenblatandgeiger.com" is long and hard to remember, let alone read on a business card, however they decide on "SGGLaw.com" which is much easier to read and remember. They could also go with additional domains related to the type of practice they have such as "FloridaAccidentAttorneys.com" While it is a longer domain name, anyone living in Florida might be typing those keywords in on a search engine and will be directed to their law firm.
Take your time while registering a Domain Name, go to a registrar such as "godaddy.com" and search away, if you find a name is taken that you want you can normally follow a whois link that will show you who owns the website, from there you can decide if you want to contact the owner and see if they are willing to sell their domain name. This could get very expensive as most people that own a domain and are not using it could just be sitting on it and waiting for someone to make an offer, if you can afford this then go for it, otherwise move on and find a name that suits your business and keep an eye out for the domain you wanted as it may eventually go back into the pool if the owner does not renew the name.
After you register your domain name you will now need a place to host it, this is where you need to find a "Web Hosting" company, this company will provide you nameserver information that you will need to provide to your registrar in order for the domain name to direct traffic to the server where your site will be hosted.
